John L. Flavin, Managing Director

John has 20 years of experience in the life sciences field focused on finance and operations. John has led two successful NASDAQ IPOs, raised over $230 million in private and public funding and has served as a board member and COO/CFO role in a public company setting for the past 11 years. Most recently, John served as President, Chief Financial Officer and Director for Advanced Life Sciences Holdings, Inc. (ADLS). He helped to found ADLS and led its IPO in 2005 and subsequent follow-on equity offerings. John supervised all business, financial and operational activities of ADLS. Prior to ADLS, John helped found MediChem Life Sciences, Inc. (MCLS) and built the company from 6 people in 1991 to over 230 by 2002. He helped lead the MCLS private equity financing in 1999, successful initial public offering in 2000 and its acquisition by DeCODE genetics, Inc. in 2002. Mr. Flavin was the COO and a director of MCLS and was responsible for the acquisition and management of Emerald Biostructures, ThermoGen and AXAS which became subsidiaries of MCLS. John was named the Marquette University College of Business Young Alumnus of the Year in 2005 and is a KPMG Illinois High Tech Award winner. Mr. Flavin serves on the Lewis University President’s Council of Regents and is a Marquette Circles Host Committee Member. He guest lectures regularly at the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business in the area of biotechnology entrepreneurship.

Patrick W. Flavin, Principal

Patrick has 15 years of experience in the life sciences field focused on legal and governmental affairs. Patrick has served as the chief legal executive to two public companies and has been instrumental in securing non-dilutive funding for growth. Most recently, Pat served as Chief Legal Counsel to ADLS, where in addition to supporting capital raises, managing corporate governance and operations, he led the company’s efforts to gain government funding through biodefense contracts with the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). Pat is a frequent speaker at biodefense conferences and is a recognized leader in the field of advocating on behalf of biodefense funding for anti-infectives as well as governmental incentives for antibiotic development on Capitol Hill. Pat obtained his B.A. from Providence College and received his J.D. from DePaul University Colleg e of Law.

Michael T. Flavin, Ph.D., Managing Director

Michael T. Flavin, Ph.D., has 28 years of experience in the life sciences industry having successfully started and built two drug discovery and development companies. Dr. Flavin is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Shamrock Structures, LLC, a structural biology company owned by Flavin Ventures, LLLC. As Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Advanced Life Sciences, Inc. since 2002, he led the company’s acquisition and scientific development of Restanza (cethromycin), a novel oral antibiotic. Prior to this date, he was the founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of MediChem Life Sciences, Inc., a drug discovery technology and services company. Dr. Flavin took MediChem from start-up in 1987 through many stages of development including the completion of MediChem's private placement, the acquisition and integration of ThermoGen and Emerald Biostructures as MediChem subsidiaries and MediChem's initial public offering in October 2000. MediChem was acquired in March 2002 by deCOD E genetics. Dr. Flavin was the Chief Executive Officer of MediChem, as a subsidiary of deCODE, through May 2002. Dr. Flavin received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame, a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago and he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University in organic chemistry. Dr. Flavin is a board member for iBIO and Lewis University, is an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Medicinal Chemistry & Pharmacognosy at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a guest lecturer at the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business in the area of biotechnology entrepreneurship .
